How do Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) work?

Search Engine Optimization(SEO) is an extremely powerful tool for businesses. Search engine tools such as GoogleBing, and Yahoo are used by businesses who are aiming towards a long run and according to statistic, organic results win 94% of the battle against Adwords.

SEO is a process of improving the visibility of a website in the search results. SEO is the only way to get lots of organic traffic. It will help your website up the rankings ladder has a huge impact on the amount of traffic you receive. (K A Shamim 2015)

Search Engine Marketing(SEM) can be split into organic or paid listing method. Its purpose is to increase the position of a company or its product in the search engine. The organic listing will be preferred compared to paid listing as they are more genuine. They are based on keywords, quality, relevance, and the number of visitors. Paid listing is using the “Pay-Per-Click” method.

AdWords is also known as Pay-per-click (PPC) is a paid advertisement as marked with the green arrow below. A fee will be charged each time you clicked on the link whereas organic results (SEO) that are highlighted in yellow star, allows your website to appear at the top when it is a quality and high ranked website on the search engine. With high traffic, more consumers will be able to visit your website on the search engine.

An example of SEO and PPC:
Let’s Google and search for “flights to sydney”.  You will notice the top link with the word “Ad”, that is a paid listing. The other links below are the organic listing.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE WHITE HAT and BLACK HAT TECHNIQUE!

https://www.systango.com/blog/white-hat-seo-vs-black-hate-seo/

White hat technique is using a legal way to gain visitors to their site. They offer quality content and use keywords to help consumers find what they are looking for on the website. The website content will be updated regularly and provide an appropriate display. It may be time-consuming to provide quality content, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Black hat technique is the complete reverse of white hat technique. It is doing what Google does not want them to do, they violate the search engine terms. They perform illegals actions, such as hacking and sending viruses. Black hat focuses on search engines instead of visitors as they are looking for short-term investment. Hidden texts and link and content spamming will be part of the method they use on their sites.

In a long run for organisations to be trustworthy, white hat technique should be a better and preferred option as people will be able to get quality content out from it!

  2. Hi Jibsen! New to your blog and I love the content you have written! Keep up the good work 🙂 I personally like how you have explained it in such a coherent manner that makes it really simple for the reader 🙂 for me, I feel that SEO and SEM should be used together. Companies should have continuous SEO strategy running in the background while SEM should be more of a “on-need” strategy. However for me, I feel company should invest more in SEO as PPC can sometime incur more costs and might not provide useful conversions for the brand. What about you? Do you think a company should invest in SEO or SEM? Love to hear your thoughts!

    1. Hi Sandy!

Your business, regardless of its size, has a unique audience. You may be able to reach out to them with SEO or SEM, but the results depend on your business and marketing goals.

For some businesses, SEO makes complete sense while PPC is out of question. And for some SEO may not seem viable when compared to the benefits of PPC.

If you are an accounting agency that needs to generate local business and is no hurry to do so, building and executing a solid SEO strategy can work out great in the long run.

But if you’re a lawyer competing with other legal agencies in the competitive SEO space, you may be better off buying PPC ads to get better results.

It is essential to analyse your existing goals and how they co-relate to your overall business objective. You have to create an online marketing strategy that clearly guides you towards leveraging the right method.

  4. A very well-articulated post Jibsen! SEO marketing is more important than ever in today’s society as it serves millions of users per day who seek to get their questions answered. The black hat technique is one which i would not recommend as it clearly causes the user to be inconvenienced while surfing the web. That said, this has been an insightful post!
